• Sainsbury's 'experiences 4.1 per cent growth'

Sainsbury's has achieved higher-than-expected sales figures following the end of a three-year improvement plan, it has emerged.

The Press Association reported today that the supermarket firm has experienced a 13th consecutive quarter of growth, with like-for-like sales in the past 12 weeks increasing by 4.1 per cent on last year's sales figures.

It is thought that some £2.7 billion in sales growth has been achieved since the Making Sainsbury's Great Again scheme began in 2005. Original projected sales growth was expected to reach £2.5 billion by the end of the scheme this quarter.

"This is an outstanding success and I would like to thank and congratulate all 150,000 Sainsbury's colleagues for the part they played in achieving this," said Sainsbury's chief executive Justin King.

Meanwhile, Brand Republic reported this week that Sainsbury's is set to trial a new colour coupon printing scheme in May, which will also use information gathered through the store's Nectar loyalty scheme to evaluate previous shopping behaviour.
