Meet the Stenton family, our Nectar Savvy Family 2012 winners

Stenton family - Savvy Family winners 2012

Dean and Ashlea Stenton and their two sons are from Pontefract. HGV driver Dean is a seasoned online deal hunter and is the go-to man for friends who are looking to pick up a bargain. Living by the motto 'never pay full price', the Stentons pride themselves on being able to find the best price on anything and everything, whether it's a weekly shop or a day out for the family.

Some of the Stentons winning tips included:

  • Save on electricity bills by charging mobile phones, iPods and satnavs in the car on the way to work
  • Learn the prices of your weekly shopping items and write a list down of all of the everyday, every week items that you buy, and carry it with you to compare prices in stores you visit
  • Save water by using toilet bags. These are bags that swell up to occupy up to a litre of water space in your cistern, thus saving water with every flush. Many suppliers give these away for free
  • The rail companies put their tickets on sale 12 weeks in advance. To get the very best prices check daily once you are 12 weeks away from your travel date

Meet the Mills family, our Nectar Savvy Family 2011 winners

Mills family - Savvy Family winners 2011

Some of the Mills' winning tips included:

  • Swapping with friends is a great way of getting something new to you and recycling something you no longer use! Ideas on things to swap are films, clothes, toys, unused toiletries and CDs
  • Bleach is a household must and not just for toilets! It has so many other fantastic uses and will save you money and cupboard space. Bleach can be used to keep your whites white, flowers fresh for longer and china cups stain free (to name a few)
  • Never throw away clothes that no longer fit in length, just cut them up to make shorts, skirts or three quarter length trousers. If it fits the waist, don't let it go to waste!
