When you shop with our partners and use your Nectar card we learn about what you buy, and you collect Nectar Points that you can spend on real stuff. We help fund these Points through advertising.

We use Nectar data to build audiences of Nectar Collectors, and brands pay to advertise to them. We work with carefully selected partners to make Nectar audiences available on their platforms and take a share of the advertising fee, which we use to fund Nectar Points.
Step 1
First, we use Nectar data to create profiles and segments of people that brands want to reach, such as soft drinks buyers, which we call audiences. This includes creating lookalike audiences by analysing data from one set of profiles and segments to identify similar individuals in another set. We can also use audiences of people that brands have created themselves from their own customers such as newsletter sign ups, and competition entries.
Step 2
To deliver the ad, we find audiences when they use websites, apps, social media and advanced TV, through our partner platforms. Partner platforms currently include:
This may involve the sharing of Nectar data with our partner platforms. Some of our partner platforms may also use this data for their own purposes, including to enhance their services, as described within their respective privacy policies.
Step 3
When we know that our partners have delivered the ad to you, we check to see if the ad was useful and relevant to you by using the transactional data created when you use your Nectar card. If it was relevant, you may see more ads like that in the future; if it wasn’t, we may show you fewer similar ads. Either way, you’ll earn Points on your shopping as normal.
We hope you’ll understand how this helps fund the Nectar Points you earn on your spending and also helps us make the ads you see more relevant to you. However, we know that not everyone wants to be sent tailored ads, so if you’d rather we didn’t use your Nectar data for digital advertising, you can opt-out.
As part of our digital advertising activities, we sometimes jointly decide with other companies how personal data is used for advertising. This is called a 'joint controller' arrangement under data protection law. Where we work with other companies in such arrangements, we use personal data in ways consistent with our privacy policy. You can exercise your rights in respect of this processing using the details in the 'Contact Us' section of our privacy policy.
